  • Importing from Deviant Art I am thinking that either some load threahold has been hit, or DA is filtering requests from the importer, as I too am experiencing the exception thrown in Anubicdarque's post. And to add, I have tried this on two different browsers (Chrome and 5 months ago / Total Posts: 15
  • PDF database the .pdf format is somewhat well documented at this point (or so I thought). Certainly there should be a way to strip data out of a .pdf and do some kind of import via transform (i.e. XML/XSLT) or a straight insert into a DB. Not sure about the 6 months ago / Total Posts: 3
  • Unrelated influences An influence certainly does not have to show directly. It can be in a conceptual way, or in small ways of observing the work as it progresses. The influence can be very subtle, or otherwise wholly integrated into a whole that otherwise obscures its 6 months ago / Total Posts: 4
  • Aptana I actually use this for even simple edits of xml files. It's updater can be a little overaggressive, but it is a nice IDE, when you don't want to use vi. 6 months ago / Total Posts: 8
  • Painting from a photo digital or traditional I think it largely matters on result. If the result has something additive; if it is stylized to a point where it clearly goes from the source material elsewhere, then that is fine. Mimicry, while not without its benefits, generally lacks a creative 7 months ago / Total Posts: 9

  • Sun acquires MySQL The lack of understanding of what Sun's purchase of MySQL, and in turn Oracle's purchase of Sun mean for MySQL seems to have eluded many; it fundamentally changes little. The code can be forked if need be (yay Open Source, and Oracle has 7 months ago / Total Posts: 6
  • importing from deviant art It needs to thread well. The old one was in python. It didn't work so well. Interesting. I would not have expected that (then again, I am not a coder, but a technical project manager by all accounts), as we have had some great luck in both speed 7 months ago / Total Posts: 35
  • importing from deviant art Our new importer can only import Featured deviantart work. We're working on a way to import the rest but DA doesn't provide an RSS/Atom feed for the rest so we have to do it manually. This involves significantly more work so we have a C++ coder 7 months ago / Total Posts: 35
  • Favorite band EVER? Miles Davis. Fleetwood Mac, without a doubt. Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks was a match made in Heaven! I could take or leave Nicks and McVie. Buckingham was the most compelling songwriter and player in that group for me; I actually think 7 months ago / Total Posts: 43
  • Who's a musician and what do you play? I used to play acoustic trap kit pretty well, but have been off and on back at the beats since. I do still play, but its inconsistent, and I mix it between acoustic and electronic percussion/programming. I was in a (mostly) trio called the Heavy 7 months ago / Total Posts: 23

Multiple uploading is on our to-do list, but it wont be for at least a few months due to other priorities. Thanks for the suggestion tho What 7 months ago / Total Posts: 2
  • Hello from deviantART! Well, there seems to be even more than one former DA staffer roaming about. I am simply mulling about, trying to see what all the hubbub is about before (if) I dive in the rest of the way. 7 months ago / Total Posts: 25
